Session – 2 (Familiarization about toolkit, Solar lamp components, Physical and technical testing)

S2: The second session was started at 11:00 am. The trainer elucidate the components of the solar lamp using multi-meter. Multi meter is a very valuable diagnostic tool which because of its mobility and multi-function capability can provide information that a stationary distribution / meter box. The trainer also educated about the technical testing of components of the solar lamp. As long as the multimeter is working correctly, we can get accurate reading on your solar panel. This test will measure the current passing between the panel and controller and to the battery. The variance of current and voltage parameters to be demonstrated to the students by varying the light intensity falling on the solar panel. The handbook was used by the trainer during the workshops to clarify the student doubts. At the end of the session, students should gained all the technical components and their parameters of all components about the solar lamp.

Session – 3 (Assembly of Solar Lamp)

S3:After the lunch break, the session would continue, sometimes by an energizer performed by trainer and participation all the trainees. This was aimed at vitalizing the students back for the session after they took lunch. There was a brief attempt made by the trainer about step by step assembly of solar lamp. The trainer start demo about the soldering and the students come to soldering table in a cluster. In general, a solar lighting kit comprises a solar panel, rechargeable battery, charge controller unit, cables. At the end of this session, students educated the assemble of quality solar study lamp. It focuses on hands on installation exercise, wherein participants by themselves install the system, perform, electrical connections and produce light. Session – 4 (Wrap up session)

S4: After the short tea break, the last session would start with a recap of previous sessions of the topics. This was done by asking the students about what they had learnt and what the knowledge acquainted to solar energy. At the end of the day of the workshop there was a post – test conducted by the course trainer which was aimed at gauging the knowledge and understanding of the participants about the sessions discussed during the training and how much they had improved after attending the workshop. At the end of this session, participants should feel the importance of the solar in future. Finally, the participants are taken on the solemn pledge on Non-violence against an environment.

ONE DAY SEMINAR -2014

The Department of physics , Srinivasan College of Arts and Science organized a one day seminar on INTRODUCTION ON BATTERY on 18.09.2014. Shri. A. Srinivasan, Founder and Chairman, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Group of Institutions presided over the function . Dr. P.Sivakumar PhD, Associate Professor of Physics, Periyar EVR College, Trichy was a Resource person. Mr.M.Senthil kumar,Head, Department of Physics Welcomed the gathering. Dr.G.Vadivalagan PhD, Principal of SCAS, felicitated the gathering. The resource person in his Lecture Explained the types of battery, Working of battery. He also Spoke industrial applications have unique power needs and the choice of battery is important. While consumer products demand high energy density to obtain slim and elegant designs, industry focuses on durability and reliability. Industrial batteries are commonly bulkier than those used in consumer products but achieve a longer service life. Batteries are electro-chemical devices that convert higher-level active materials into an alternate state during discharge. The speed of such transaction determines the load characteristics of a battery. Also referred to as concentration polarization, the nickel and lithium-based batteries are superior to lead-based batteries in reaction speed. This attribute reflects in good load characteristics. Discharge loads range from a low and steady current flow of a flashlight to intermittent high current bursts in a power tool, to sharp current pulses on digital communications equipment, laptops and cameras. In this paper we evaluate how the various battery chemistries perform in a given application. Finally Mr.R.Selvam , Assistant Professor of physics , delivered vote of thanks.
